About Simon

Simon started learning the piano at the age of four, after what he is assured were months of "pester power".  Progressing through the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music grades, he obtained a Distinction at Grade 8, and was accepted to study piano at the Royal Northern College of Music.

After a ten year career in law, Simon realised that he needed to return to his first love - music - and pass on the skills and techniques he had learned from the incredible teachers he was lucky enough to have had over the years.

Simon is an Associate of Trinity College, London, and also an Associate of the Royal Schools of Music, having gained a Distinction in both institutions' piano recital diplomas.  He also holds a diploma in Music Theory from the London College of Music.  Simon is a Member of the European Piano Teachers' Association, a Member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians, and is a Registered Teacher-Assessor for ABRSM Music Medals.  In 2023, Simon was honoured to be elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and in 2024 was admitted as a Member of the Royal Society of Musicians, founded in 1738.

Happy to teach students of any ability. Simon is a firm believer that one is never "too old" to learn the piano, and enjoys teaching adults just as much as younger students.

Simon is also experienced in performing, having done so in places varying from events at Oxford University, the International Convention Centre and Birmingham Cathedral, to church halls and weddings, to private recitals.  In April 2018, Simon won the worldwide Steinway & Sons and Decca Classics recording label's Piano Day Challenge with his recording of The Dance of the Blessed Spirits form Gluck's opera Orpheus et Euridice, which is available to listen to here.

In his free time, Simon's interests include cooking, woodwork, old-fashioned film photography, and riding motorcycles.
